"[Christopher Frayling:] One of the very interesting designs in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is the sweet factory where, [...] it's entirely black and white and the only splash of colour is the sweets. It's quite an avant-garde technique in a mainstream film.

[Ken Adam:] I wasn't sure whether I'd gone too far. [...] It was almost expressionistic. I thought it would be interesting to treat it as black and white and then let the sweets have the colour."
